Adopt a Goat

  • Hello out there to all of you virtual goat herds! We have a nice little herd of angora goats making mohair every second of every day. For those who would like to raise their own livestock, but whose situation prevents them from doing so, you can now adopt a lovely little angora goat as your very own. You’ll be helping with the costs of daily board and care in exchange for more mohair than you can use in a year and some other very nice perks. For a yearly support fee of $100, you will receive:

    1. A framed picture of your goat.

    2. Monthly reports and picture updates detailing the progress and activities of your special friend.

    3. Farm privileges to visit the farm and interact with your animal and his/her herd one on one.

    4. Two raw fleeces per year, one in the spring (April-May) and one in the fall(Sept.-Oct.). If for some reason we deem a fleece to be unacceptable, you will be given a similar fleece as a replacement.  Shipping costs of up to $20 is included in the adoption fee.

    5. Satisfaction of knowing you’re helping prevent the disappearance of the small family farm and providing excellent board and care for a friendly, personable and productive animal.

    6. Invitations to shearing days and farm events, including notification of kiddings.

    7. If you choose to purchase livestock from us in the future, you will receive 20% off the price of any animal on our farm or 25% off of the price of your adopted animal.

    8. Naming privileges for any and all offspring produced by your goatie friend. Choose the name and it will stick!

    9. 50% off the purchase of full mohair fleeces--for fiber freaks!

We have no kids this spring, so the next grouping will occur next spring beginning in April and ending in May. We have female breeding stock, one wether, and two bucks. The colors include, white, fawn, faded red and black. If you choose to adopt a bred female, you may add one or more of her spring kids to your program for $50 for the first year. This will give you one shearing of kid mohair.

Your support fee of $100 is not refundable so please take your commitment to this animal seriously. The money will provide 12 months of feed, water, vet, and two shearings, the costs of which are at an all time high. At the end of that time, you may opt out of the the program or choose a different animal. You may add additional animals at any time throughout the year, as the 12 month period is figured on an individual basis. Payment of adoption fees does not constitute ownership of the animal. If your animal should be sold or, God forbid, pass into the ether, you will be given another animal to love and care for. You may choose this animal if you like or we will choose a similar one for you.

Thank you for your support. You involvement means so much to us. My family lives on the eastern Colorado farm where I was born and where my parents farmed for 45 years. Traditional farming has become an exercise in futility and we are constantly looking for ways to preserve and pass on our heritage while maintaining our contribution to our community, both locally and nationally. We look forward to partnering with you as you endeavor to do the same.
